The Colchester Gladiators are delighted to announce the newest addition to their organisation, bringing former NFL star Ross Tucker on board as Honorary President for the club. The club are excited to integrate Ross into the family, and have already talked about what benefits his background and expertise might bring to the Club moving forward.
Tucker was an All American Offensive lineman who graduated from Princeton University in America’s Ivy League. Ross quickly earnt a spot on the Washington Redskins Roster in 2001 under renowned coach Marty Schottenheimer. In 2002 he found his way to the Dallas Cowboys, and in 2003 he was acquired by the Buffalo Bills, where he found success protecting QB Drew Bledsoe. After a successful tenure in Buffalo, Ross moved within the division to the New England Patriots, where he played under legendary coach Bill Belichick, and alongside future Hall of Famers Tom Brady, Richard Seymour, and Adam Vinatieri. In two years with the Patriots, Ross won back to back division championships and won three playoff games.
In 2006 Ross was traded to the Cleveland Browns, as former Patriots’ Defensive Coordinator Romeo Crennel brought him to Ohio, but with injuries mounting, Ross never took the field in a Browns uniform. Despite that, Hall of fame coach Joe Gibbs, who has three Super Bowls on his resume, brought Tucker back to Washington. Unfortunately injury forced Ross to retire in March of 2008, ending a career that saw him play more than 40 games across 5 different teams.
Since retirement, Tucker has been active in the media, working with Sports Illustrated in 2008, before being recruited to ESPN as a columnist in 2010. Along with this, he’s a year round host on SiriusXM NFL Radio, a studio analyst for both the NBC Sports Network and the YES Network, a colour analyst for NFL games for Sports USA, the creator & host of the “Ross Tucker Football Podcast” and the lead NFL columnist for Sporting News.
Club Chairman Julie Greenland said of the appointment, “Ross Tucker is not just a successful football player, but he’s a successful person. He’s turned his hand to football, media and is a self-made internet entrepreneur as founder of Go Big Recruiting. Ross is exactly what we want out players, young and old, to aspire to be. Ross absolutely defines the work hard, play hard ethos of the Gladiators, where we want to build a successful programme at all ages on the field, but we want to support our members in all their off field endeavours too. We are a genuine family here in Colchester, and to have a figurehead like Ross Tucker involved in the Club is a huge boost for us”.
Ross himself added, “As soon as the Gladiators reached out I was excited to learn more about the club, and hearing what they’re doing in British football is really inspiring. I’m honoured to be invited to be part of such a proud and historic club as the Colchester Gladiators. With the NFL gaining popularity in the UK, and British American Football growing at a fantastic rate, it’s a great opportunity to lend my support to this great game, and I’m excited for what this partnership will mean for the Gladiators as they continue to push for another national title”.
