The Colchester Gladiators have the opportunity to put the heavy defeat to the national champion London Warriors behind them on Sunday when they host the Berkshire Renegades at Colchester Rugby Club at 2.30pm.
The Reading based Renegades currently own a 1-4 record, their only win being a narrow 7-6 victory against South Wales Warriors, the team that defeated the Gladiators 14-12 in their first game of the season. The Renegades have also played and lost to Cambridgeshire Cats and London Warriors so the game is shaping up to be a close affair.
The Gladiators small squad is being severely tested with a number of players still out injured or unavailable including Garry Shuttleworth, Anders Bengston, Mitchell Thomas and Sky Bultitude, along with long term injury victims Dave Crane, Casey Campbell, and DJ Demeuren.
The Gladiators will have learned a lot from last week’s game and hope to keep the intensity they played with against the Warriors.
The Gladiators’ junior team will also be playing at the rugby club, hosting the Cambridgeshire Cats juniors. The young Gladiators hold a record of 3-1 after defeating the Solent Thrashers last week and defeated the same Cats 17-6 in Cambridge a few weeks ago. Kickoff is 12noon, the first game of a double header, with admission still free of charge.
