new season

The Colchester Gladiators Basketball section continues to thrive with three senior teams entering leagues for the 2014-15 season and the start of a junior programme.

The Gladiators men’s basketball team completed an undefeated season last year, winning all 18 league games and gaining promotion to the Suffolk League Division One in just their second season. The success of the team has drawn in new players to the extent that team management applied to enter a second team, which will compete in Division Three.

The Gladiators ladies basketball team has also continued to train after their inaugural game back in February, a 57-25 win over a combined Essex University and Ipswich team. After recruiting some new players, the ladies team will be playing in the Essex Women’s league, competing against well established teams from Southend, Cambridge and Braintree.

The Gladiators will be hosting a number of recruitment days at their home venue of Colchester Academy Sports Centre this month to try and strengthen the teams before the start of the season. New players will then be able to train with their teams to prepare for the start of their respective leagues from October. The significant dates are:

Wednesday 13th August:         Men’s open recruitment day 8pm.

Wednesday 20th August:         Ladies open recruitment day 8pm. Men training at 9pm.

Wednesday 27th August:         Men’s trials and registrations from 8.30pm.

Wednesday 3rd September:     Men’s final selection for Div 1 or Div 3 team.

The junior programme will be starting with regular training sessions at the sports centre on Saturdays from 11am, suitable for all ages from 7 to 17, all abilities welcome.

Anyone interested in joining any of the teams should contact Nick Foxley by email at Full details can be found through the Gladiators website at
