The Colchester Gladiators basketball team produced a determined, defensive performance to hold on to their unbeaten record going into the Christmas break. They had to dig deep against their closest rivals and with their offence spluttering at times, played good defence to restrict the scoring opportunities of their opponents.
In a low scoring first period, the Gladiators were restricted to just six points. Nathan Syrett opened the scoring with a free throw and Dan Vilkys scored his only points of the quarter before Rhett Burton hit one of his trademark threes to give his team a 6-5 lead. But the Jutes tightened up their defence with a 6-0 run to end the quarter 11-6 ahead. (more…)
The Colchester Gladiators Basketball continued their destruction of Suffolk League division two with a 95-52 thumping of the Anglia Nomads at Colchester Academy Sports Centre. The 43 point win represented their largest winning margin of the season so far and the seventh time in nine games they have won by 27 points or more.
The Nomads came out fighting though, confident in the knowledge that they could hold their own with the league leaders, having previously lost by just two points back in October. (more…)
The Colchester Gladiators Basketball team continues to dominate the Suffolk League Division Two, strolling to another comfortable win by 77-42 over Bury Bulldogs, improving their record to 8-0.
After a tight, low scoring first half, the Gladiators totally dominated the third period, holding the Bulldogs to just four points while scoring 29, before coasting through the final quarter to register another convincing win. (more…)
